Deforestation in Kelantan: 1990-2020 Satellite Imagery Uncovers Environmental Threat in Malaysia

Deforestation in Kelantan, Malaysia’s second poorest state, has been rampant due to poor forestry regulations and government corruption in handing out logging licenses(C4 Center, 2016). To uncover the extent of forest cover loss, I analysed the linear trend of deforestation using Landsat satellite imagery spanning over 30 years at 5-year intervals(1990-2020). The results are meant to inform Malaysians on deforestation trends hidden from public view.
